My townhouse had a walkway, a small covered entrance pad, and a very large back patio which had poured concrete slabs, which were very unattractive to see. One of my neighbors put down sattillo tile, while another used travertine . Both were expensive to do, and I wanted to achieve beauty without expense and my son came up with the idea of staining the concrete.
We looked into the process, and were told that would require a five-step process. First, we’d have to powerwash; then acid wash; then pre-treat, then stain, then apply the sealer. I didn’t like the idea of my son using the acid, or the idea that the acid would rinse into my flower beds. I also knew that the fumes were unhealthy for both of us and I determined to find a better way.
A few moments on line and I discovered that right here in the Phoenix area, a company makes and sells beautiful concrete stain made from Soy. All natural, it cleans up with soap and water, with no toxic fumes and most of all - - beautiful results.
We cleaned the areas with the garden hose , and rolled the stain on with a roller. The next day we applied the sealer and it is gorgeous!!!!
Some of the obvious pluses for this is, of course, it’s non-toxic, and, I haven’t - - excuse the pun, set my choice in concrete, so, if, or when I sell my townhouse, the new buyers won’t have to live with my choice if they wish to do something else; and while my neighbors spent between $3,500. - $7,800.to cover their patios, our's cost was under $200.00!
